Our Home Energy Assessment (home energy audit) takes two to three hours and includes the final inspection. We have several categories to reflect the extra time spent as house size increases. The cost of the assessment is:
$395* for homes up to 1,500sf
$495* for homes up to 2,500sf
$595* for homes up to 3,500sf
Homes 3,500sf and above: $250* plus $0.10 per square foot on finished square footage
Don’t miss the rebate listed below that can lower the assessment cost.
The above square footage amounts include finished basements. You can find the total square footage of your home online. Charlottesville: City Assessor’s Records Online or Albemarle: Real Estate Assessment Records. Add the finished square footage and the finished basement square footage to get your total square footage. For other counties, we will measure at the assessment.
Payment is requested at the completion of the assessment by check or in advance using PayPal or PayPal’s online credit card service ($15 additional fee).
*If your home has a gas furnace and/or gas water heater, we will perform combustion safety testing at the cost of $25 each. Gas stoves, gas logs, gas dryers and gas space heaters are tested at no charge. This testing is required by the Building Performance Institute for your safety. When you are making your home more air tight, you need to know that your combustion appliances are operating properly. A final inspection after your energy efficiency upgrades are complete is required by LEAP. The cost for this is included with your assessment.
